What do Public Lands Mean to You?

Welcome to the official blog of the Our Wild America Colorado Campaign! Our Wild America Colorado acts to engage and empower our communities by providing accessible opportunities to explore, enjoy, and establish permanent protections for our public lands.

At our Our Wild America (Wild) Colorado Campaign kickoff meeting for the Sierra Club, we asked the 35 attendees what Public Lands means to them. We then collected their responses, and put it into this beautiful vision which we will strive to uphold in our work:

Public lands provide opportunities to lose ourselves--and find ourselves, to explore and enjoy the vast and beautiful natural surroundings we all share; they are spaces of solitude, where we can reflect, find peace, become inspired, and reinvigorate mind, body and spirit. Public lands reveal to us a deeper sense of interconnection with native wildlife and ecosystems, and teach us the importance of sustainability, conservation and preservation in their intrinsic value.
Losing our public lands to extractive industries such as oil and gas drilling would mean losing an essential part of ourselves, and would preclude our sharing the many gifts of these precious places: clean air to breathe, clean water to drink, and open land to roam free.
Being inclusive of all community members of every age and background to collectively build a roundtable for establishing permanent protections of our public lands is paramount. Actively partnering with organizations and vibrant, diverse communities will be necessary to foster mutual understanding across all parties, promoting a cohesive and effective vision.
We strive to empower diverse constituencies like youth with accessible trainings, workshops, and retreats catered to the local happenings in each community.  To this end, we will work to build communal bridges through a shared narrative with our own personal experiences, history, and issues as we reflect upon protecting our natural heritage.

Join us to explore, enjoy, and protect this beautiful state!
